this separate house I build
again yet again
erecting desire's ridge-pole
shoring up the walls with sense-impressions
raising a roof with tiles of self-deception
and with a monkey's agility
peering out of this window and that
all the while uneasy unsatisfied
in this separate house
where the roof lets the elements through
and the walls keep falling down
which willingly I raise again
to make for myself a house of unease
now the ridge-pole is split
the roof is shattered
and the house is broken
it will not rise again
this separate house
for I know you now carpenter
and have thrown away your tools
